The Tongue
It can never be overemphasized, that the bible is our roadmap for righteous living. Proverbs 4 vs. 23 and 24 says; “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it
spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you.” The definition of perverse means contrary, stubborn. And what
do we see displayed on many of the talk shows today? Perverse behavior. Today many people will listen to those who have a perverse tongue as though what they
say represents the truth, whatever the subject matter may be. When the perverse tongue is going full throttle it is not a good thing. Proverbs 8 vs. 13 says; “The fear
of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse tongue.” It matters greatly the people we listen to. In the book James reference
was made to the harm which happens because of an out of control tongue which hisses like a snake when it whispers. James did not sugarcoat his words to the
general congregation of church folk. In chapter 3 vs. 6 thru 8 he says; “the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that
it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is
tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is a unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” Vs. 11 says; “Does a spring send forth fresh
water and bitter from the same opening?” The answer is no. For a moment think about the behavior on display today by many people in positions of authority.
God’s word teaches us how to live in harmony with one another. The Apostle Paul encouraged the brethren in Ephesians chapter 4 vs. 29; “be kind to one another,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God forgave you.” Think about what this world would be like if mankind followed the word of God. Today
where’s the love? There’s plenty of anger on display. What would Jesus say about the preaching today? Jesus says in Matthew chapter 5 vs. 44; “love your enemies,
bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” March 2, 2025
