It’s The Tongue People!
Isaiah, a prophet of God, says in chapter 40 vss. 21 and 22; “Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.”
Great words of wisdom can be found in the meaning of Psalm 46 vs. 10 which says; “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
It can never be overemphasized that the word of God is our roadmap for righteousness. Proverbs 4 vss. 23 and 24 says; “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you.” Perverse means, contrary and stubborn. And what do we see displayed today on many of the talk shows? Perverse behavior.
Today many people will listen to those who have a perverse tongue as though what they say represents the truth, whatever the subject matter may be. When the perverse tongue is going full throttle as it is today it is not a good thing. It keeps us divided.
Proverbs 8 vs. 13 says; “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse tongue.” It matters greatly the people we listen to.
In the book of James reference was made to the harm which happens because of an out of control tongue which hisses like a snake. James did not sugarcoat his words to the general congregation of believers. In chapter 3 vss. 6 thru 8 he says; “the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and is set on fire by hell.
For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.”
Vs. 11 says; “Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?” The answer is no! For a moment think about the actions of many people in positions of authority. God’s word teaches us how to live in harmony with one another.
The apostle Paul encouraged the brethren in Ephesians chapter 4 vs. 32; “be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God in Christ forgave you.”
Think about what this world would be like if mankind followed the word of God. Sometimes we need to be still. Today where’s the love? There is plenty of anger on display. Paul says in Philippians chapter 4 vs. 13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Lastly; Learn to place your trust in the living God.
